I have always been a lover of books, particularly those with the dichotomy of the strong alpha male and the weaker love of their life which they must rescue. After reading all I could find in M/F books, I decided to give M/M fiction a try and my addiction skyrocketed.

Nikki McCoy has created a superb thoroughly enjoyable saga. Crimson Mate illustrates emotional drama such as fear, cruelty, scenes of homicide, as well as sensual intimacy. I particularly enjoyed the different shifter species in the same blood related family.

I really liked this book! My favorite part of a shifter book is when the two mates meet. The instant attraction and need to protect that they feel. I have always been a fan of shifter books for those reasons. You get that with this book along with the one who fights it and the perfect amount of angst. Once I started this book I could not put it down. Manning and Quin clicked to me, they fit together. Now I wish had gotten to see them as a couple a little more then I did but otherwise this was a good book! I would definitely recommend this book!

It is Manning’s responsibility to commit to the safety of his kind and to find a mate to carry on his line but when he finds his mate, he’ll have heal his ravaged heart and prove his belief in their entwined destinies before their two races go to war in this riveting m/m paranormal romance. The author’s explanation of her Ba’Kal and Vam’Kir world flows smoothly into Manning and Quinn’s romance adding lots of depth and understanding to the story and ensuring that the reader wants to know more. I was completely caught up in the story from the very beginning and couldn’t put the book down until I had read every word and I can’t wait to read the next book.

I honestly loved this book. I was hooked from the beginning and didn't want to put the book down. For me, shifters are one of my favorite themes. I never get bored with them, although a majority of shifter stories are the same old, same old.
With this story, however, I felt like it was told in an entirely new way even if the bottom line is still the same shifter concept. The Ba'Kal are the shifters and the Vam'kir are the vampires/trancers. The whole history of the Ba'Kal and Vam'kir is explained within the story and even goes so far as to mix both races. I found that refreshing because how many stories out there have a being that's both vampire and shifter? Not many. I loved that Quinn was both and I loved that Manning was so patient with him. Quinn is fragile, suspicious and scared of what Manning is and has to offer. Manning, being the leader of the Ba'Kal, is possessive immediately of Quinn and goes pretty much on a hunt to find Quinn again when he loses him. I found their attraction together sweet because Manning won't push Quinn when it comes to being mates which I also found refreshing.
My only problem with the story is that I felt like the ending was too abrupt. The final conflict was over within a few paragraphs and then it skips right to something completely different so we didn't even get the calming of the chaos after the fight. I was a bit disappointed in that because I was looking to some serious head bashing when it came to the bad guys!
Overall, I loved the story. I'm desperately hoping there's going to be sequels because I would love to immerse myself back in this world! As it is, I know I'll reread this story again soon.
I read this several months ago but i did like it and I did finish reading it. I didn't find it boring or anything thought it was just ok.
A new spin on the vampire and shifter tale. I believe this book will have a sequel, and I will buy that one also...But this book is great as a stand alone tale of love between mates of different species,and the strife that comes of the Romeo and Juliet like feud . Recommend highly!
